The little strip of shops and cafes occupying Angove Street in North Perth is, come a weekend, always buzzing with breakfast goers, little dogs and prams and a general good time ‘isn’t life great when you go for breakfast’ atmosphere. With this in, a trio of bloggers trundled down the strip in search of a new adventure: found at The Pantry Door, 36-38 Angove Street, North Perth.
With its eclectic décor of found bits and bobs and buyable wares it is almost like your grandma and all her culinary skills opened a café with a sassy city dweller. The Pantry Door provides you a slick dining experience that also seems to sooth your tired soul, tell you that you work too hard and then gives you a nice cup of tea. Thanks, Grandma!
- Scrambled eggs on toast
- Feta, Mushrooms and Spinach on Sour Dough
- Spanish Style Egg and Chorizo Breakfast
The coffees and food came out rather quickly, and we managed to score a table on the sidewalk for the three of us. Guest blogger Jet, coming off a recent vegan binge, went for the feta, mushrooms and spinach on sour dough. The dish was delightful, just enough tasty zing to make the dish tantalizing until the end. The scrambled eggs received a thumbs up from our resident scrambled egg connoisseur David, who has recently ditched poached all together. His report: good, hearty, cooked well, not runny.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Natalie’s dish: the baked egg and chorizo came out with runny eggs. Cue the comedic ‘buh-bow’ sound effect. If there is nothing our breakfast bloggers cannot stand, it is runny eggs! Susannah, all the way in Berlin, would be beside herself. Upon tucking in, this dish descended into a gluggy mess far too quickly and ended up resembling some kind of albumen protein soup. No thanks.
The coffee was hot, strong (courtesy of an ex-barista from the now Boubar in Nedlands) and stood up to its competitors on the Angove Street strip. We left with a mainly satisfying experience, if not for one slightly hungry blogger.
The Pantry Door offers a huge array of home-made cakes, nibbles, pre-made food to eat in or take away and seems to cater for most appetites. If you are looking for a place to take your mum, lady friend or just get a bit of a food cuddle when your feeling down this just may be the place for you.

But I love runny eggs! Do you mean wet, watery eggs because I CAN NOT TOLERATE wet eggs! Runny yolks good, wet eggs BAD, GROSS, DISGUSTING! On a happier note to all those worried about my breakfast welfare here in Berlin, I believe I have found a place that sells bacon (real bacon!).
The hotel I’m staying right now doesn’t serve this kind of dish.Wish I could have this for breakfast…Looks so yummy!
